Earthquake registered in east of Turkey


An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was registered today in the eastern Turkish district of Tunceli, after last night two earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.4 and 4.5 in the southeastern district of Hakkıari caused panic among local residents, Turkish state TV reports.

The earthquake occurred at 4:28 p.m. local time (3:28 p.m. Bulgarian time) at a depth of 8.7 km below the earth’s surface, the government Directorate for Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) announced on its website. The epicenter was in the area of ​​the city of Pulyumur.

Earthquakes of magnitude 4.4 and 4.5 rocked the Hakkıari district of southeastern Turkey yesterday, causing fear and panic among residents.

Although AFAD and the district administration of Hakkyari announced that no negative consequences of the earthquake were recorded in the territory of the district, experts expressed their concerns after the earthquakes. Some of them said the region was susceptible to a magnitude 7 earthquake, while others highlighted the danger of landslides, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
