The periods of isolation and quarantine have been reduced

The periods of isolation and quarantine for patients with COVID-19 and those who have been in contact with them are being reduced. This was reported to the First Channel of Georgia by the Ministry of Health.

According to the agency, in the event of a shortage of personnel at strategic facilities – in medical, educational institutions, the systems of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, justice and defense, the State Security Service, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Revenue Service and the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance, with asymptomatic or mild illness, isolation of employed persons ends at 6th day after confirmation of infection. A negative test result is required to complete the isolation. However, after the disappearance of symptoms, at least 24 hours should pass. It is highly recommended to use the mask for the next five days after isolation is complete.

Isolation for all other asymptomatic or mild patients ends seven calendar days after COVID-19 is confirmed. In this case, a negative test result is not required. However, after the disappearance of mild symptoms, at least 24 hours should pass. Wearing a mask for five days after isolation is still highly recommended.

For moderate and severe course of the disease, the period of isolation remains unchanged and is determined by at least 10 calendar days from the date of taking the confirmatory sample. There should be a significantly improved dynamics per day. It is highly recommended to use the mask for the next five days after isolation.

The decision to end the isolation is made by the family physician based on the patient’s state of health.

As a reminder, people are not subject to quarantine, although they are strongly advised to use a mask for the next ten days after contact:

• persons vaccinated against the “booster” dose;
• fully vaccinated individuals, 14-90 days after receiving the second dose of vaccine;
• also persons who have had a coronavirus infection in the last 60 days;

The updated periods of isolation and quarantine until February 10 also apply to infected people and those who have been in contact with them.
