The EU’s foreign affairs spokesperson commented on the recent parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, in which the ruling “New Azerbaijan” party once again claimed victory.

 

Peter Stano cited the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission report, which stated that the elections were held in an environment of political and legal restrictions, excluding pluralism and genuine competition.

 

“Early parliamentary elections took place within a restrictive political and legal environment, devoid of competition. OSCE/ODIHR also noted the continued repression of dissenting voices. EU calls on Azerbaijan to implement the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations”, Stano said in a post on X.
