Borrell proposes to remove restrictions on use of weapons supplied to Ukraine to allow to strike Russian territory

Ukraine has shown great strategic boldness by launching attacks inside Russian territory, the European High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said, Josep Borrell, upon his arrival at the informal Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, at a press point together with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, Nova News reports.

“The Kursk operation has dealt a serious blow to Putin’s narrative about this war. But at the same time, Russia continues to attack civilians and civilian infrastructure. On Monday, Russia launched an air strike with more than 300 missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities, trying to hit critical energy infrastructure. It is clear that Russia wants to completely destroy Ukraine’s electricity system to put it in the dark and cold for the coming winter,” he said. “Many hospitals and medical centers have been bombed. Russia wants to bomb a European country until it capitulates,” he added.

For this reason, air defense systems were essential before the summer and are even more so today. This will be the first point of a very intense Foreign Affairs Council,” Borrell specified. The European High Representative then reiterated the need to remove restrictions on the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine to allow Kiev to strike Russian territory. “The weapons that we are supplying to Ukraine must be fully used and the restrictions must be lifted so that the Ukrainians can strike the places from which Russia is bombing them. Otherwise, the weapons are useless,” Borrell said. “Since the beginning of the war, Russia has launched more than 14 thousand drones and almost 10 thousand missiles against Ukraine,” he concluded.
