22 dead, 45 injured in shell attacks near ICRC Gaza office
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that at least 22 people have been killed and 45 others were injured in a shell attack Friday that damaged the structure of its Gaza office, which is surrounded by hundreds of displaced people residing in tents, Reuters reports.
The ICRC said in a statement on Friday that similar attacks have occurred in the past few days, and the Red Cross strongly condemns such incidents that put “the lives of civilians and humanitarians at risk.”
Under international humanitarian law, parties to the conflict have an obligation to take all feasible precautions to avoid harm to civilians and damage to civilian objects, including humanitarian facilities, said the ICRC.
The statement did not specify who fired the “heavy caliber projectiles.”
