Death toll from Indonesia earthquake rises to 38

The death toll from an earthquake that struck Indonesia on August 15 has risen to 38, The New York Times reported.

According to the newspaper, data from the US Geological Survey showed that the earthquake struck north of the island of Flores, about 1,000 miles east of the country’s capital, Jakarta.

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said the earthquake caused several buildings on the island to collapse and was one of the strongest tremors to hit the area in more than 30 years.
