Erdogan welcomes US-Iran deal, warns against provocations by Israel
Reuters. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Monday (June 15) welcomed a deal between the United States and Iran to end the war, but warned against provocations by Israel until the deal is signed.
“We are very pleased, on behalf of our region and all humanity, with the agreement reached with our contributions as well,” Erdogan said after a cabinet meeting, congratulating all nations that helped secure the deal.
He said all sides must avoid rhetoric and actions that could escalate tensions and be wary of sabotage attempts.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday a memorandum of understanding aiming to end the war in the Gulf has already been signed by the United States and Iran, drawing calls from his opponents to publish the text. An official signing ceremony for the agreement is due to be held on Friday (June 19) in Geneva.
