Erdoğan, Putin discuss Syria, Ukraine in a telephone conversation

In President Erdoğan’s phone call with Russian President Putin, bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.
According to a statement made on the social media account of the Presidential Directorate of Communications, bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed during Erdoğan’s phone call with Putin.
President Erdoğan stated that the clashes that followed the withdrawal of Syrian security forces from Suwayda posed a threat to the entire region and that it was important for Israel not to violate Syria’s sovereignty.
Erdoğan stated that Turkey aims to ensure stability and security in Syria and to help the country get back on its feet as soon as possible.
According to Kremlin, Expressing deep concern over the recent surge in violence in the country, the leaders emphasized the importance of stabilizing the situation as soon as possible through dialogue and the strengthening of national reconciliation, while ensuring the legitimate rights of all members of Syria’s multi-confessional society. Both sides underscored the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Emphasizing the importance of starting the third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine, Erdoğan noted that Turkey would continue to host the talks in Istanbul once suitable dates are determined for the parties.
During the discussion of the situation in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his principled commitment to seeking a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict and thanked Erdoğan for his continued willingness to facilitate direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul.
A number of current issues related to the further development of bilateral relations were also discussed.
