Pentagon: despite increased attacks by the Russian army, Mariupol did not fall

Despite increased attacks by the Russian army, Mariupol did not fall, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.

“We monitor Russian airstrikes and the movement of artillery in the Donbas and in the south. Especially in Mariupol and its environs, as well as inside the city,” he added.

According to Kirby, despite the increase in the aggressive actions of the Russian armed forces, the Ukrainians are resisting them.

“The Russians are doing what we call ‘formation’, which means they are setting the stage for wider and more open attacks in eastern Ukraine,” Kirby said.

Recall that Moscow delivered an ultimatum to the defenders of Mariupol. In particular, they were asked to lay down their arms with security guarantees on Sunday from 06:00 to 13:00 Moscow time. However, the city continues to hold on. Official Kyiv declares that the situation in Mariupol is much worse than what we have seen in other cities.
