Firefighters battle fires inside warehouse in Kyiv after deadly Russian attack

A Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv and its surrounding region killed 15 people overnight on Wednesday, August 5, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) said.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, said nine people were killed in the Brovary district, four were killed in the Buchanskyi district, and one died in the Fastiv district.

The SES said that one more person was killed in the city of Kyiv, and that all the fires caused by strikes in the Obolonsky, Sviatoshynsky, Holosiivsky, and Desnyansky districts of the city had been extinguished. The SES also reported that 15 people had been injured in the attack on the city of Kyiv.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the attack on “transport, logistics, and distribution centers in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.” It said it had hit facilities producing and distributing components used to make drones across Kyiv and its region and targeted three cargo vessels allegedly transporting weapons and military equipment near the Black Sea port of Odesa.

According to news reports, this was one of the deadliest attacks across Kyiv this year.
